BlackLily and Farirai clinch the Intwasa 2015 Poetry slam title

In the poetry slam of the year held on the 26th of September,  at the BulawayoNational Art Gallery hosted  over 20 of the biggest poets from Zimbabwe and South Africa. Farirai and BlackLily clinched the poetry slam as the audience felt that both deserved the title hence resulting in them sharing the prize money of $100.Black Lily won the best corruption piece and walked away with $50.

BlackLily wowed the crowd with her poems I am Pluto and a letter to my ex-boyfriend. A letter to my ex-boyfriend was a piece that was dedicated to an ex-boyfriend and why she is writing him this last letter to him.

Farirai slammed the crowed with Y2K, ‘’Where is your brother? ,a piece inspired by the recent xenophobic attacks that happened in South Africa and Awuzi type yangu, these poems left the crowd yearning for more. Awuzi type yangu  a piece that was about the poet’s preference to the natural girl and not the girl who walks with a “borrowed Naomi Campbell’s step”.

Some amazing pieces were done by Thamsanqa Ndibuyile  ,Anthea Taderera  and Cynthia Hutete   mesmerized the audience with her piece Alcohol. The piece compared the types of men to alcohol, some having an after taste, whist some just making you drunk only to have a hangover the next day and the type of men she compared to red wine. The type that is “mature and refined, that makes you want to kick off your shoes”.

Maya Roze also left the audience yearning for more whilst Tinashe Tafirenyika took us back to 2009 when shopping became normal again and when change was an issue and one had to choose between cigarrates and condoms.
