White City Stadium came to life on Saturday night as Skyz Metro Fm fans thronged to celebrate the radio station’s 1st anniversary. The anniversary gig which came after claims by the Zimbabwe All Media and Products Survey that the station had 0% listenership.
The revellers were kept entertained by the stellar performance from a star studded line up including South African kwaito king pin Professor, Stiff, Jeys Marabini, Madlela Sikhobokhobo, Zinjaziyamluma, Sandra Ndebele , Clement Magwaza, Ndolwane Super Sounds, Mzoe 7, the Three Hip Hop Kings (our new term for Asaph Cal_vin and Guluva Se7en) and a number of local musicians who all made the concert a memorable one.
Madlela Sikhokhobo sent the crowd into a frenzy as he performed his popular hit “ngamnanka” which was the crowds favourite. He also sampled his latest new track “Majazana”, which was also well received by the crowd. Djembe Monks as always gave an A-class performance, leaving the crowd in a hyped up mood.
Although the show had a few rowdy elements who even used illegal entrances to get into the stadia it was a good outing. Skyz Metro made a bold statement that it is a station to be reckoned with.
Earlier in the week, people on social media had ridiculed the event poster saying it looked like a package for sunlight washing powder. Although that notion remains still remains, the poster/package served its purpose.
All being said, it was an anniversary party to remember and we are certain many still have a hangover from all that Ingwebu brew.
