Sex, Drugs and Musicians! Do drugs fuel creativity?


Is an addled mind essential to making great music? Does sobriety cause creative impotence? Musicians living fast really do die younger! Often referred to as the Rock ‘n’ Roll kinda life, Studies found that in the past 50 years, musicians were more likely to die prematurely than the wider population.

The lavish lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock ā€™nā€™ roll may be hugely appealing but can result in the tragedy of premature deaths. It has been believed for a very long time that drugs have often made musicians perform beyond their ability. Being a musician myself I’ve come to realize that Intoxication doesn’t stimulate Creativity. What drugs do is they manipulate your senses and you are venerable to doing the things that are against your moral values.

Talking of moral values, when your mind is manipulated your urge for sex shoots up. We have heard of artists that have sex with a number of women backstage throughout a night’s gigs. Being said that being a musician comes with its ‘pecs’, well it seems sex has been one of the packages that comes along. You can imagine the number of tours and gigs a artist has to go through. You can only be left amazed at the amount of drugs taken into the system and amount of sex.


When its being explained it sounds simple but the effects of sex and drugs is so high. This has also seen a number of artists have premature death. Also taking into consideration of violence created by drug use, gang related feuds that results in brutal murders and suicides.


A look at artists that died from drug abuse and gang related violence: Jimi Hendrix an amazing musician died at the age of 27, Elvis Presley at age 42, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Tupac, B.I.G just to mention a few. Word of advice to young and upcoming musicians: Intoxication doesn’t Stimulate Creativity!
