Ibumba Festival 2015 in Full on Mode


Ibumba Festival roared into life, last night at Stanley square in Zimbabwe’s oldest township Makokoba Bulawayo. The festival official opening started with a cosy and classy cocktail party which was kept vibrant by a skilled D.j Passe.


During the cocktail party the Full on book launch was conducted by prominent young Author from the city of Kings Njabulo Moyo.A literary masterpiece titled “Heart of Art” was officially launched by Moyo, the book is a must get because of the various art and cultural minds who contributed in it. The text which highlights aspects of the Art’s and the creative sector in Bulawayo.  The book which has contributions by renowed Phathisa Nyathi, Festival Director Saimon Mambazo Phiri and talented poet and Actress Lady Tshawe among others.


Creative Artist Patience Phiri then read a remarkable poem which is part of the book. The distinguished guests were introduced at the cocktail before the Guest of Honour Mr Busisa Moyo who is the President of the Confederation of the Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) and the Chief Executive Ofiicer of United Refenaries was introduced to the exicted crowd at the cocktail.


The festival which is graced by various foreign acts including South African based theatre group African Tree Production which also dazzled the crowd with a 10minute theatre skit, this was then followed by yet another electrifying introduction and performance by a youthful urban music group from the kingdom of Swaziland called Chakalaka.


The show then moved to the main stage, where the festival director Mr Phiri and guest of honour Mr Busisa Moyo were introduced to the public and gave short astute speeches. Before the speeches the funny M.C Carlos Ngodzo impressed the crowd with his communication skills, this was then followed by the Full-On show by Alexander Mhlanga performed by Phakama Mfazi and Siyaya.

Chick Aljoy, the city’s` own versatile ventriloquist then invaded the stage and kept the crowd giggling; this was then followed by  Nkosini Ndlovu whoo have gave a mouth watering drum experience. Ndlovu who is from Kezi was bought to the festival courtesy of Orap and Amagugu Heritage the captivating drummer left many clamouring for more.


The Opening Gala Concert saw CLSG choir, Africa Directions from Zambia and Chakalaka from Swaziland blazed the main stage, until Clement Magwaza erupted on stage with his usual impressive performances.


The official opening was shut down by DJ Slamma who gave a #FullOn mix behind his decks, his music selection kept the crowd on cloud nine till 1:30Am.

Ibumba festival 2015 is set run for 7days in 7venues around Bulawayo and surrounding areas under the theme #FULLON, more than 100 acts are expected to be performing this years` festival.The festival runs until December 22.
