Gabriel ‘Gabzfire’ Nyandoro is professional Musician (performing artist) and music producer with a career spanning over 28 years. Through the years, he has helped many emerging artists establish themselves by recording and engineering their albums.
For the past 13 Years he has worked for Radio Dialogue as a producer and engineer. He is an established live reggae artist who has worked with many artists in Zimbabwe and abroad. Gabzfire was nominated at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (ZIMA) for the best engineer in 2014.
He has worked as an MC and presenter for different Roadshows, Live Music Shows, Fashion Shows and Arts events. Every year, since 2006 he has headlined the Bob Marley commemorations with his band The Fire Runnings. He brings a wealth of experience as a qualified presenter, dj, producer and sound engineer.
He was inspired by Dennis Wilson, the former Radio 3 reggae presenters. Some of the influences on his music career include, Bob Marley, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Marvin Gaye.
Gabzfire was born in Lupane on the 8th of January 1966 he has lived in Bulawayo for most of his life. He grew up in Nguboyenja where he developed keen interest in music at a young age. At the age of 7, he joined the school choir. The same year their choir won a singing contest held at Sizinda Hall.
In 1983, Gabzfire moved to Makokoba when their house was demolished to pave way for the development of Luveve road. In Makokoba, Gabzfire joined Sound System where they specialized in Djying and singing over pre-recorded instrumentals called Dub Music.
From 1988 to 1990, he moved to Gweru played for Mystic Power, together with Man Soul Jah. Gabzire continued his musical journey to Victoria Falls where he would sing Dub Music and also Djying at Spray View Hotel. Here, he would take the reggae and ragga slot only.
In 1990, Jamaican Reggae star, Dennis Brown, was coming to Bulawayo and Gabzfire could not miss this opportunity. It is at this show that he reconnected with his old friends and former Zig Zag Band players and they decided to start a band.In October the same year, Urban Guerilla Band was born. In December the group they did their first show at Nkulumane Hall. Urban Guerilla Band recorded one album before folding up in 1992.
He later joined Shine Band as a Keyboard Player and Vocalist. The band specialized in Hitsville cover versions. This is the same band which backed up Kwaito outfit, TKZee for their Zimbabwe tour. In 2002, some Shine band members relocated overseas leaving Gabzfire with no option but to go solo.
He began working as a solo musician and sometimes getting hired to be a session musician. In August 2002, he joined Radio Dialogue where he worked for 13 years. In 2014, he left to pursue full time music.
Gabz is also going to be the producer, presenter for Skyz Metro FM Bulawayo and Breeze FM in Victoria Falls. He is the voice for Urban Fire Shows which will run on both stations. “My show showcases some of Bulawayo’s finest reggae, hip-hop and dancehall/ragga act, It gives a platform to Bulawayo’s emerging artists while also entertaining the listener with some of the city’s established voices” said Gabz.
His recent major performance highlights include performing at Zimbabwe’s second biggest festival, Intwasa Arts Festival 2011, Mamela 9-9 Festival 2011, Convergence Music Festival 2014 amongst others.
He has mentored many emerging artists who have since grown to become household names. Some of the artists he has worked with include Khuxxman, Rivonia Khumalo, Mjox, Centre Party, Harmony Sounds,Chichi, Bongo Love, Dudu Manhenga, Handsome Mabhiza, Hudson Simbarashe, Tanga Pasi and many more.
He is married to Shami and they have 2 boys and 1 girl.Gabz Fire is a living Zimbabwe Music legend who has vowed to rock the Zimbabwe music since till the end of time.
