Nathi is the next rags to riches story in the South African music industry. Growing up surrounded by poverty and a seeming lack of opportunities, a single mother who worked as a street hawker raised Nathi and his five siblings.
He grew up just like any other kid but he was very special because of his love for Art, Sport and Music.
1.He natured his art skill over the years and went on to enter the “DARE TO DREAM” competition which was support by the Elundini Municipality (local municipality). He prepared himself, entered the competition and the following year he won first prize.
“I grew up in a Christian family. We would sing before we pray every night. We took turns opening each prayer session with a song and that’s when my singing talent started,”
2.Through out Nathi’s trial and tribulations, he found four magic letters that describes his music, L.O.V.E, Nathi says that these four letters have no season nor have they age group limitation.
Mankayi hails from a small town, Maclear, in the Eastern Cape, near the Mooi River.
3.In November 2014 Vusi Nova heard him sing and insisted on featuring on a song with him. He came from Maclear to JHB to record “Noma Kanjani” with Vusi Nova.

4.His album Buyelekhaya, which is sitting on triple platinum, went platinum within six weeks of its release.He is one of a few artists whose album has gone platinum in a matter of weeks. It has sold just over 128000 units to date.
5.The musician says his dreams of going to an arts school were shattered in 2002 when he was involved in an armed robbery.
