This year, 2 Zimbabwean designers showcased at the Durban Fashion Fair. Shadow By Sidumiso who showcased on the night of Wednesday, 31 August during the menswear night, featured Zimbabwean fast rising model, Lungani Mkwebu.
Shadow by Sidumiso got a Recognition Award for Best African Mans Wear Collection at the Fair.
Mkwebu who has walked for shows such as Matabeleland Fashion Week, Intwasa Fashion Show and the John Ablaza Culture & Couture Show, debuted his international runway by modelling at the Durban Fashion Fair during the Shadow By Sidumiso show.
The second designer, Nkanyeziyethu Malunga of GANU showcases on Thursday, 1 September at the Durban Exhibition Centre.
“I feel so blessed to have such people as Shadow By Sidumiso who believe in pulling others as they climb up the ladder. This amongst many, is another door to more opportunities”, said Lungani Mkwebu.
Lungani who has been busy with the John Ablaza Project as one of the selected models to be groomed and work close with the Filipino Designer, is destined for greater heights.
Durban’s premier annual fashion event. Which celebrates the talent of new and established designers. In 2012, EThekwini Municipality – management and council approved the launch of the Durban Fashion Fair which is part of the fashion development program that aims at capacitating the local designers, empower young designers, encourage the culture of entrepreneurship, and facilitate access to market and networking opportunities.
Other Designers who walked away with accolades DIVA Who won Best Ladies Wear Collection, Poku Pokua who won Best African Woman’s Wear Collections,Terence Bray for Collection Of The Week and Mita-N who became the emerging designer of the year.

Another fellow Zimbabwean Model/Photographer – Kudzai Chakaingesu was also seen walking on the runway at the Durban Fashion Fair, representing the country.
