For a moment your heart could have skipped at the mention of death at one of Bulawayo’s finest theatre spaces. You could have panicked and wanted to know who died and how could have the tragedy transpired.

In fact it is a 2017 theatre production by Umthombo Arts, it is the first theatre production to go on stage this year in Bulawayo and fireworks are expected this Friday as veteran theatre personalities go on stage to present this latest production.

Double funeral stars veteran actor drummer and  dancer Julian Tshuma, award winning actor Gift Chakuvinga, Nomvuyiso Mabi-Mpofu and Nokuthaba “Sarafina”Okamandla. The play is directed by talented Thulani “Khumz”Mbambo a well-established theatre veteran.

The Umthombo Arts production brings back theatre guru Julian Tshuma who has been off stage for a decade, he makes a return on this hard hitting play. Speaking to our news crew Tshuma promised fireworks in this production and also highlighted his excitement on making a return to one of the things he loves, and have been part of the better part of his life.

“I feel good, happy live i have always looked forward to getting back on stage ” Said Tshuma

The play slated for Bulawayo theatre tomorrow will see theatre lovers paying $3 to watch the latest theatre production from Bulawayo. The production comes after we joined the rest of the world in celebrating world theatre day.

The day was created by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) an international non-governmental organization in 1961. The day is celebrated on the 27th of March each year with festivities spreading out throughout the week. Theatre has played a critical role in most communities globally.
