A little bit of good news for people in Bulawayo and surrounding areas, the city now has a new radio station named Khulumani FM and is owned by the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Cooperation (ZBC).
According to reports Khulumani Fm will focus on business, social, economic, cultural and linguistic issues cutting across all ages and the radio station is set to accommodate different languages such as Sotho, Venda and Kalanga but with much focus in isiNdebele. The station promises to fill a void in the country’s media entertainment and news arena.
The station made its first live broadcast this morning with seasoned broadcaster Sakheleni Nxumalo on air. The station opened by playing some of Bulawayo’s talented musicians among them Djembe Monks, Calvin, Msizkay, Skaiva, Khuxxman, Thuts Harsh Touch and the legend Jeys Marabini. Nxumalo assured listeners of a strictly local playlist as he doesn’t have a passport to cross out of the Zimbabwean boarders for music.
The station will now offer an alternative for local musicians who have been struggling to get airplay in some renowned Zimbabwean stations. Khulumani Fm will have four hour shifts and will broadcast for 24 hours.
Khulumani FM is the fifth radio station owned by the national broadcaster ZBC and its frequency is 95.0.
