The Unstoppable Rise of Ngezi Platinum

Castle Lager Premiership hotshots Ngezi Platinum underlined their status as the unbeatables in the local league after a polished display in Harare against Caps United at the giant National Sports Stadium over the weekend.

With the victory Ngezi moved three points clear off second placed FC Platinum, who were held to a nil-all draw by a resurgent Triangle at Mandava on Saturday  and eight off third placed Highlanders who also dropped points on the same day after a goaless draw against Yadah in Harare.

Many were still doubting Ngezi`s title credentials but after Sunday`s well deserved victory, the Mhondoro side are now serious title contenders,if not favorites. The hard fought 2-1 win proved that Madamburo are on a charge to lift their maiden league title.

After falling behind to a 27th minute John Zhuwawo strike, the ebb flow seemed to be against Ngezi as a rampaging Makepekepe threatened to overrun their opponents, however Madamburo responded with a commendable perfomance that left Lloyd Chitembwe stunned.Man of the moment Terrence Dzvukamanja`s sublime finish and marauding James Nguluve`s tap in were enough to secure victory for Ngezi.

Ngezi have steam rolled past everything put infront of them and now the biggest question is,who will stop Ngezi?Caps United have failed,so has Highlanders,Dynamos and Chicken Inn.What many fans will be anticipating is the back to back week 16 and 17 clashes between Ngezi and FC Platinum, which are likely going to play a defining role in the destiny of the 2018 league title.

Meanwhile all the chasing pack dropped points over the weekend.FC Platinum and Highlanders were held while Chicken Inn`s winning run came to a halt after they came unstuck in Gweru against second from bottom Chapungu. The Game Cox are still placed fourth albeit the gap has been narrowed.

Harare City overcame Nichrut to move to 20 points, level with Chicken Inn and Triangle but remained sixth because of an inferior goal difference. The Sunshine Boys are unbeaten at home and have  only tasted defeat once this season.

Biggie Zuze and Amin Soma Phiri all started their reins incharge of Dynamos and Bulawayo City respectively with important victories.Amakhosi compounded Shabanie Mine’s woes with a 2-0 victory at Luveve Stadium on Saturday while Quality Kangadze`s strike was enough to bring back smiles to hardpressed Dynamos fans, away to Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday at Barbourfileds Stadium.
