Defending champions Tsholotsho High boys and Mzimuni Secondary Girls Under 20s have reached the Orap Zenzele Isuzu Champions Cup 2018 finals in their respective competitions after hard fought victories in the semi-finals.
Tsholotsho edged hosts Gifford 6-5 after a penalty shootout, in a fiercely contested encounter that could have gone either way.The match was dubbed a final before final as both teams were impressive in the group stages.
In the other semi final clash,Tongwe overcame Gloag via the dreaded penalty lottery as well. The match like the Tsholotsho/Gifford one had finished goalless in the regulated ninety minutes.Tsholotsho and Tongwe will lock horns in a mouthwatering final slatted for tomorrow morning.
In the girls cup Mzimuni dismissed Zwangendaba in also through penalty shootouts, keeping their hopes alive of defending the cup they won last year.
Mzimuni will meet Manama, who defeated Beitbridge’s Malugudzi,in an epic final. Like in the boys semi final, all matches finished scoreless after regulated time.
Eight boys’ schools and six girls took part in this year’s tournament which is its fifth edition the competition started in 2014 and has been growing with each year. This year’s Orap managed to have a record number of partners who also helped in making the event a success.
In the spirit of the World cup, the 14 schools used names of teams participating at the 2018 World Cup currently underway in Russia.
The finals will be played tomorrow at Gifford High School.
