A few weeks ago we got introduced to one of Bulawayo’s finest Hospitality and Tourism schools the Global Institute of Hospitality and Tourism (GIHT) located at 391 George Silundika between 8th and 9th Avenue. The institution has taken training of outstanding hospitality and tourism players as part of their vision and have introduced well regarded International programs as part of their courses.
In an effort to expand tourism and hospitality in the country GIHT went global and partnered with ICM and City and Guilds which will in turn will get students accustomed to working in any environment globally and also add to the success of domestic tourism which will match global trends.
To add to the global courses GIHT also has HEXCO, ITEC, business courses and Vocational skills for those without 5 O Levels. In a bid to have well trained students the college will in the near future have students going for attachment outside the country.
At GIHT students undergo grooming, professional etiquette and empowered with entrepreneurship skills, competitive fees the institution also offers block release and weekend schools for those with other commitments.
As a premier academy of tourism and hospitality, GIHT is geared to be one of the vehicles in the growth of the Tourism and Hospitality sector in Zimbabwe and beyond. “We designed our courses to meet the professional goals of our students, while at the same time meeting the changing needs of the global and hospitality industry” says one of the lectures at the institution who is hoping to see more young people take courses they offer, with a bias on culinary studies in particular as it will address the current shortage of qualified chefs at some major hotels and restaurants in Zimbabwe.
