Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo is upon us. With less than 24 hours before it roars to life, the organisers of the festival have promised an unparalleled celebration of the arts in its entirety.

The festival runs from tomorrow up until 29 September 2018 and opens with a musical dance production Bloom Bloom by Umkhathi Theatre Works at Bulawayo Theatre.

The opening production will be followed by 4 days of world-class cultural experience and entertainment, with performers from Zimbabwe.

Star performances at this year festival include globe trotting all female imbube outfit Nobuntu and Black Umfolosi who will share the stage on Friday 28 September at Bulawayo Theatre. This show will be a welcome back event for Black Umfolosi who have been away on an international tour. Ironically it will bid farewell to Nobuntu as they for their international tour.

Liberation
Liberation

In theatre, there are top class acts from writers Thulani Mbambo, Leonard Matsa, Christopher Mlalazi and Bhekumusa Moyo. Actors Gift Chakuvinga,Zenzo Nyathi,Derek Nziyakwi, Nomvuyiso Mabi Mpofu and Rumbidzai Karize will all entertain theatre enthusiasts at the festival.

Intwasa Comedy Festival

In comedy, award winning comics Clive Chigubhu and MaForty, Nceku, Zwexy Mackena, and Prosper The Comic Pastor will headline the 2 comedy nights that have been dubbed Intwasa Comedy Festival. The first comedy night will be held on September 28 and will see Harare based Prosper The Comic Pastor being part of the act.

Visual Artist Exhbition

The National Art Gallery in Bulawayo will host Intwasa Arts festival KoBulawayo Visual Arts exhibition titled Realities and Experiences. The exhibition will be curated by talented visual artist Mthabilisi Phili and will run until November 26 2018.

Gold Diggers
Gold Diggers

In literature award winning writer and poet Philani Nyoni will host a writing masterclass for young writers, while Sue Nyathi will launch her book titled Gold Diggers officially in Zimbabwe at this years festival.

Women,Wine and Words
Women,Wine and Words

Women, Wine and Words has become one of Intwasa Arts Festival’s signature events and will be held on September 27. This year it features award winning musician Edith WeUtonga, Prudence Mabhena and poet Batsirai Chigama amongst other top acts.

Umcimbi Wabantu
Umcimbi Wabantu

The festival which will curate 25 events in 5 venues will shut down with Umcimbi Wabantu, a celebration of the 2nd anniversary of Bulawayo’s commercial radio station Skyz Metro FM.
