Umahlekisa Comedy Club boss Ntando “Van” Moyo is set to star in a new movie titled “Thunqa”. The movie shot in Bulawayo was done by award winning filmmaking company Ya-Sibo Media which was founded by writer and director Lenni “Mdawini” Sibanda who rose to fame with his 2015 production “Qiniso”.
The new production also features television personality Nyasha “Diva” Mtamangira, rising stand up comedian Ckhanyiso ‘dat guy’ and musician Palmer Mharadze among others.
Lenni Mdawini Sibanda stated that they are putting the final touches to the feature film which took two weeks to shoot in July. A pre-trailer and a poster have been released and the movie will be launched in October. The film is about a church girl who turns rogue when she falls in love with a criminal.
“We are going to release the film in October and we are putting final touches to it. I hope many people will love it because it has a very interesting story line. Our actors are very confident and they showcased their talent in this film,” said Mdawini.
The producer of Ya-sibo? Media Tatenda Daisy Gapare said the pre-trailer is being distributed via Ya-sibo? media‘s platforms and she is happy with the comments they are getting from people.
“We have many views online and most of the people cannot wait to watch the whole movie. We have received positive feedback from other filmmakers too. We want the film industry to grow and show others that the Zimbabwean art can make it without being a begging bowl,” she said.
Lenni “Mdawini” Sibanda won the 2016 National Arts and Merit Awards in the outstanding short film category for the film Jane the Ghost with one of his productions She and Him was showcased in Stuttgart Germany in 2013.
