You could swear that they are all that they have in this world and they would kill just to make sure the other is happy. The love that exists between these two is simply mutual.

Most people know them for their great work and I doubt they need any introduction, their reputation precedes them. If you haven’t fallen into a trap of believing that the Matsika brothers are twins then you don’t live in Bulawayo.
From the first time I saw them, I confidently told myself that they were twin brothers and I even called them ‘twinny’, only to discover they are 2 identical species with a 4-5 year gap in-between them. My initial belief is empirical evidence that I live in Bulawayo.
Before we go any further, if you don’t own any of their jewellery and bead pieces then you haven’t done justice to your fashion sense. Being born into a family of 8 talented creatives has paved way for the Matsika Brothers’business. We ought to believe it when the elders say, greatness is passed from generation to generation.
This is the case of Elvis Matsika EM (26) and Chrispen Matsika CM(30s)who inherited the amazing skill from their father, who had so much patience in his children and saw potential which several years later manifested itself into a livelihood.
The journey of craft work has been amazing for them, from first being taught by their father, to Chrispen eventually falling in love with it, then later him motivating his younger brother, Elvis, to join in. From that time they have never looked back. Asked about why that specific skill, Elvis said, “Craft work has been my inspiration so it has been easy to work on it.
The reason I chose it, is because it runs in my family. My father was self-employed and we depended on craftwork.” As if it’s not enough Chrispen alluded to the fact that he himself has been doing this for the past 25 years, it’s evident enough that jewellery making is indeed in his blood. The older brother says he loves jewellery making because he likes creating things with his hands.
Their views and comments on their relationship as brothers’ shows so much love between them.
While Elvis says they have had their ups and downs and that on its own has made the bond stronger, Chrispen feels the relationship was good then and it’s still good now, “He is always there when I need him, we are well connected and we help each other”. Elvis highlights one thing he likes about his brother and that is that, he is outspoken.
Just like of all us they have their childhood memories;
EM: We surely had a great time. My brother was a bully he would burn me with plastics and I would cry my lungs out.
CM: We used to play around pushing him with scanias (pushcarts) and then one particular day I will never forget is when the scania over turned.
Their dreams in 5 years’ time include growing their business to a larger scale. They want to bring a variety in their market and also boost their business through opening up shop in other cities like Victoria falls.
When asked about dating, Elvis had this to say, “I won’t say much on it, because most of the time I will be working but I do date”.
Well there you have it, they do date but their passion comes first because it’s innate, it runs in the family, it’s their trade mark.
What really keeps you brothers together?
CM: Respecting each other’s views and ideas.
