The festive entertainment scene in Bulawayo might experience a blow, as rumours of a Kalawa Homecoming no-show continue to infiltrate the public domain. Word on the street is that the organisers of the show might pull the plug on the event due to the economic situation.
According to one of the organisers, the show which usually takes place on the 27th of December at the Queens Sports Club might not happen this year as investors fear that the economic instability of the country risks them a loss.
The tickets are usually pegged at $10 (advance) and $15 (at the gate). However with the shortage of foreign currency the organisers risk having to make a loss since the headlining acts, organising staff and even security is usually South African.
This year the South African Hip Hop rapper Emtee and Mlindo the Vocalist of the “Amablesser” fame have been tipped to be the headlining acts of the event.
Kalawa Homecoming has been deemed as the mother of all festivities in Bulawayo and the possibility of its absence from the city’s events calendar this year might leave a great dent.
However, this is an opportunity for local organisers to occupy the market that has been previously dominated by the annual shut down event in the recent years.
