It was a good day for Lakers Basketball Club as they received a kit donation from Sondelani under the Hamara Foods. The ceremony was held today at Hope Centre in the Bulawayo CBD.
Speaking on behalf of Lakers, the coach Skhumbuzo Ndlovu thanked Sondelani for the kind donation and also highlighted the mutual benefit this donation would go.
“The competition itself requires a huge amount of money. The budget is at $28000 and we really appreciate Sondelani in putting something towards that amount. May it be a continuous effort going forward because us as Lakers are moving billboards, we have a lot to offer. Having you as our sponsors would be good mileage to you.”
Sondelani Group is the parent company of the popular Hamara Brand that focuses on broiler and layer day old chick production, as well as producing point of lay birds. Mr. Clarence Mutangara Marketing Manager for Sondelani Group of companies highlighted that they were attracted to Lakers club because they were a Bulawayo brand that was doing excellent in representing the city and the country. This initiative according to Mr. Mutangara was a way of also empowering the girl child.
“Its our pleasure to hand this donation to the Lakers. The girlchild is special in her own right and so if there is a way we can support her achieve what she needs we will definitely do that.”
Mr. Mutangara wished them all the best in the FIBA club continental championships in Maputo citing that they had already done the city proud. Hamara Foods donated over $2000 mainly for the kits and part of the transportation costs to the championships
Lakers finished runners-up in the just ended Zone 6 Basketball Club Championships which was held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) and qualified for the continental showdown. Lakers are one of the only two clubs in the women’s category of the Zone 6 clubs that are through to the continental competition.
