McDonald Hall in Mzilikazi suburb, which used to host international acts in the 90’s was a hive of activity last Saturday, as budding artists from Bulawayo came together to showcase their talent at an event dubbed #HomegroundEkasi.
The musical show featured artists such as Kaizermore, upcoming rap prodigy Richy F, “Akuzwanwanwa” hit maker, DJ C.G Walker and Tribal Elements among others.
The venture seeks to promote local talent from grassroots levels by affording them a chance to perform in their communities and also unite artists from different backgrounds which will also foster collaborations.
We seek to try and cultivate a culture of promoting arts at community level and in places were it is inactive.” said Lymon “Lights Out ” Moyo, who is part of the organising team.
Moyo also added that they left no stone unturned in their quest to make sure that the #HomegroundEkasi show becomes a success and will make sure it runs annually.
The show organisers engaged soccer stars like South African based Kuda Mahachi, Bulawayo City defender Benson Phiri ,Highlanders duo of Ray Lunga and Charlton Siamalonga in marketing the event.
The revenue for the show will be used to roll out funding for more events to come said Moyo.
