Theatre fans are in for a treat this Friday as a new play “The Civilian” is set to premiere at Bulawayo Theatre. The play is set to address a wide range of themes including poverty, politics and the difficulties faced by people living in the streets.
The play is written by South African based Amakhosi Theatre Academy fellow Sipho Khamanga and is directed by Nomvuyiso Mabi Mpofu. Nomvuyiso is a theatre and television actress who has worked in a number of productions in Zimbabwe.
The cast consists of Bulawayo’s theatre cream in form of NAMA award winning actors Gift Chakuvinga and Leonard Phiri. Veteran actor Aleck Zulu and Prince “Mazilankatha” Ncube complete the 4 men cast.
The new play is co-produced by Umthombo Arts a Bulawayo based theatre company that has produced plays like Double Funeral (2017 NAMA Outstanding theatre production nominee) and The Hostel which headlined the 2018 edition of Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo.
