When it was announced that he would be retiring from the airwaves many thought it was one of his bad jokes and brushed it off. However the day has finally arrived. Today marked the end of Babongile Sikhonjwa’s journey with Bulawayo’s top radio station SkyzMetro FM. The entertainment personality who has been with the radio station since its inception has undoubtably been one of the station’s best assets.
It comes as a surprise that his last show was thronged by Bulawayo arts moguls such as Simon Mambazo Phiri, Jeys Marabini. Umkhathi Theatre Works, Mawiza and Cal_Vin to mention a few. His current and former collegues such as Pat Phiri Khaya Drastiq, Gabz Fire, DonnaN Khekhe, MaNurse, Tafadzwa Mukome and M’jox also came to bid him farewell.
We wonder if Bulawayo’s mornings will ever be the same. It is no doubt that he has left a legacy at the radio station and we pity the person bound to fill his boots. The Vuka Vuka breakfast show anchor will be solely missed by his colleagues, the musicians and the community at large.
Farewell Bubbles you had the lamest jokes but we as Bulawayo still loved you. Wherever you go we wish you bigger and better. 784 days on the breakfast show feels like a lifetime to your listeners. However we still have TKP to hold it down for; we have faith she will do good.
