Zimbabwe’s prominent arts event, Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) has announced that the festival will not take place this year and will focus on new projects leading to a major anniversary festival in 2020.
In a statement released this morning by HIFA Executive Director, Maria Wilson. “Zimbabwe is dealing with many important issues, both social & economic. In this context, HIFA cannot responsibly commit to presenting a feasible & viable event of the same quality & impact that HIFA is known for this year. The festival will use his time to work on other projects, particularly in schools to broaden and deepen the organasation’s contribution to arts and culture development.”
This is not the first HIFA has been cancelled the 2016 edition was also cancelled as the organisers said the event will be replaced by various activities spread throughout the course of the year building up to a new look HIFA 2017.
The Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) will be back in April 2020.
