Ciwu and new boys Arenel kicked off the Zifa Southern Region Division One Easter programme in Bulawayo, with an exciting contest that kept the sizeable crowd on their feet on Good Friday at Crescent Sports Club.
Ciwu eventually ran out 2-1 winners courtesy of goals from hard running Agrippa Peperere in the 65th minute and a well-taken free kick by David Gumbo, ten minutes before full-time.
However, it was Arenel who raced into the lead against their more experienced opponents. Frank Bushe coming up with a brilliant goal that could leave Premier Soccer League strikes ripe with envy in the 55th minute.
Receiving the ball on the left, he turned his marker inside out and delicately curled a beauty past a stranded Delroy Chuma.
Ciwu coach Kudzai “Pochettino” Mhandire was delighted with the three points that his side gained but was quick to admit that the new boys were compact and difficult to breakdown.
On another hand, Arenel coach Anthony Dliwayo was happy his side managed to score after last week’s 5-0 drubbing at the hands of title contenders Bulawayo City and expressed that it’s a learning curve for his boys.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, City continued with their scoring form firing three past Mosi Rovers for no reply. Zibusiso “Mzimara” Sibanda, Hugh Chikosa and Lucky Nyathi finding the target for the city councilmen.
Mkhuphali Masuku coached Talen Vision, who are also top contenders edged Casmyn away from home with Brian Muza finding the target in a 1-0 victory.
On Monday, Dominic Jaricha scored a brace, while Dalubuhle Dlodlo and Brighton Makopa weighed in with a goal each as Highlanders F.C developmental side Bosso 90 beat Moto Moto 4-3 at Barbourfields Stadium.
