#RIPSoniaMbaya : Arts Fraternity Mourns Artiste Sonia “Soso” Mbaya

The arts fraternity is mourning the death of dancer Sonia “Soso” Mbaya, who passed away yesterday at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo following a severe asthma attack.

She is remembered for her role as a dancer and founder member of the ever globetrotting and multi-award-winning dance ensemble IYASA. Most art enthusiasts will recall her as one of the amazing cast members of the popular Siyaya Arts production musical Zambezi Express.

Whilst news about her death filtered through a number of artists and art lovers joined the family in mourning her passing and shared their memories of her via various Bulawayo networks.

It is with great sadness that we, the IYASA and Siyaya Arts families announce the passing on of the amazing Sonia “Soso” Mbaya. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her children and the rest of the family. Soso sadly passed away 10/05/19 in Bulawayo after a short illness.

Bulawayo artists have described Soso as a larger than life character and will forever be inspired by her ever positive spirit.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course and mourners are gathered at 3115 Magwegwe North, Bulawayo.
