Mosi-oa-Tunya High School and Tongwe Secondary School won the 6th edition of the annual Orap Zenzele Champions Cup in the boys and girls category last Saturday.
Mosi-oa-Tunya High edged 2017 champions Tsholotsho 2-0, in a fiercely contested encounter that could have gone either way. In the girl’s cup, Tongwe dismissed Zwangendaba 1-0.
Eight boys’ schools and eight girls took part in this year’s tournament. All the teams that participated received a branded kit, with the winners receiving medals and a floating trophy.
Autoworld representative Mike Blatch was excited about how the tournament went through.
“It has been a fantastic tournament, we had a great time. Everything went on so well despite all the economic challenges we might be facing as a country. We watched exciting matches and great soccer talent has been showcased,” he said.
Orap chief executive officer (CEO) Mrs. Mvuselelo Huni said the organisers are committed to investing in youth because sport builds confidence among young people and teaches teamwork.
“The objective is to promote youth development through sport and we are excited to bring together teams from different parts of Matabeleland to play against each other and interact,” said Mrs.Huni.
