Outstanding Zimbabwean dance group Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) and Julia Meinx has been nominated for the Stella Awards In Austria where they have been nominated in the Outstanding Music Category.
In 2016 Iyasa was nominated in the same category and went on to win it for another co-production done with Dschungelwien Theaterhaus in Vienna.
“We have been nominated for our production Radio Freedom which premiered in November last year in Graz Austria, the theatre piece explores the role of music and radio in the liberation of people in Southern Africa.” Said the director of Iyasa Nkululeko Dube.
The Stella awards celebrate outstanding artists and organisations who champion cultural change across the globe and are named after one of Australia’s iconic female authors, Stella Maria Sarah “Miles” Franklin.
The nomination comes after the group walked away with three awards at the recently held Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards.
“It’s an honour especially coming right after our total scoop at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards, this is not just our sole effort. Iyasa is a brand nurtured by our community, our artists, our partners locally and internationally. This nomination serves to rejuvenate our mandate and purpose for the past 2 decades which is to promote upcoming talent, create opportunities for young people and put our city Bulawayo and country Zimbabwe on the world map.” added Dube
The Stella 19 awards will be held in November and Dube hopes they will bag the award.
