Whoever thought that Plumtree town has a dead nightlife has definitely never visited the border town to revel themselves. A Fortnight ago Urban Culxure had the privilege of attending one of the town’s biggest events this year. Plumtree came to life as it celebrated the 18th Birthday of the most significant Entertainment stables in town. On the 21st of September ToundTainment turned a year older as it marked 18years of belting out pure entertainment and events in Plumtree.
The entertainment movement led by Handsome Sibanda started off in 2001 and comprises of Sibanda, Dumisani ‘YugoeDJ’ Magalane and Tawanda Mabathe. Since its inception the movement has grown from strength to strength, becoming the entertainment demi-gods of the town.
The Birthday Celebration event that started out as an afternoon bash at the Plumtree Dam finished off in a stellar after-party at the famous Chicken King, with the crowd coming from as far as Bulawayo, Botswana, South Africa, and Dubai.
We had the chance to catch up with “Handy” as Sibanda is popularly known, who happened to have his birthday on the same day as ToundTainment.
“Firstly, thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday this past on the 21st of Septemeber, this gesture was much appreciated. Secondly to everyone who came through to our TOUNDTAINMENT 18-year celebration I would like to say, siyabonga. We had people from Bulawayo, Bostwana & South Africa, Namibia & Dubai coming to support us. Our PLUMTREE people did not disappoint as always. We never take them for granted and we are always grateful for them to come out in numbers every time we have events lined up.”
The Birthday Celebrations had a massive line up of DJs such as Prince Eskhosini, Bryce Klasiq, YugoeDJ, Mpho House Head, Punch, Mzansi, Cool Dread, Maba & Bradly, who played for 15 hours non stop until the early hours of the next day. Babongile Skhonjwa and Nkululeko Nkala also made an appearance at the event further highlighting that Plumtree entertainment is headed in the right direction. Handy showed his appreciation for the works and effort being put by the team of DJs.
“These guys held down the entertainment for 15 hours non stop, they are the heroes. Having Nkue & Babo as part of the celebrations is in itself confirmation that we are on the right path.”
Song of the night was from Nitefreak ft Kemm Vocals titled “Izintombi” and the huge crowd danced the night away as it played on healthy rotation.
This past weekend the movement held yet another bash themed “The Honda Fit Party” and what an event it was. The afternoon session was held at Omadu Lodge and was more of a pool party chillas. Skaiva Sibbs and YogueDJ were the talk of the event as they played back to back dishing out crowd moving hits. The event closed down to an all-nighter at Chicken King again. On this, Handy praised YugoeDj and Skaiva for holding the crowd down.
“I’m not a person of many regrets but I think I had my biggest regret of the year yesterday. Firstly, Dumie YugoeDj Magalane dropped what I think was one of his best sets this year. Then Skaiva Sibbs raised the bar as always with a killer 1-hour set, before these two guys decided to do a back to back set. Unfortunately for me, commitments called and I had to leave the venue. Let me put it this way, the next morning I met 2 guys & they were talking about the event. One of them confessed that ‘when Skaiva & Yugoe did a back to back I felt goosebumps… I nearly cried’. I have been receiving messages from people saying what they witnessed was epic and I missed it all. However as always much appreciation to everyone that came through for the event”.
Yet again the song of the night that played on constant rotation was C4 ft Carol & R.S “Masithandaze”
If you are in Plumtree on the 19th of October, make sure you go and witness the town’s magical entertainment scene for yourself. Word from Handy has it that two major artists are going to be in town Plumtree for one of the biggest street events to shut the year down.
For now, the crew at ToundTainment movement remain the knights of Plumtree entertainment raising the border town’s flag up high in the urban culture scene.
