“Blame them not her /Blame him not her” LET US DECONSTRUCT STEREOTYPES OF RAPE

In the 21st Century, the bland statement still stands, “It’s her fault she got raped, she shouldn’t have seduced him by wearing that short skirt.” It is astonishing that in this day and age some humans still think that, the female species is to blame for the gender injustices and sexual assaults committed to her.

The issue of the girl child being vulnerable and prone to attacks from both genders has been a constant battle of the sexes, packed with social and political debates, panels advocating for gender equality and bombardments from both sides blaming women for the injustices done towards them.

Facing reality and using all the logic we have been given as humans, that question shouldn’t even exist. If you cut down a tree do you blame the axe, the tree, or the one who strikes the tree down? Women are raped and killed daily regardless of the setup or dressing they are in. The issue of clothing and fashion being the cause of rape cases towards women should be totally ruled out as absurd.

If the dress code is the case, how come we always encounter cases of men raping innocent babies in diapers and grandmothers in long skirts. Where is the dress code theory in those cases? In Arab countries, a woman is raped covering their head with a hijab and wearing their attire, with absolutely no skin showing. In India women are raped in their long all covering saris, again, no skin showing. What is the nexus in all these cases? Women are getting raped despite the dressing. Where is the fairness, where is the humanity in this world?

We should be able to express ourselves via fashion without fearing to be raped or judged. Ladies, where is the sisterhood amongst us as females? Instead of bashing each other, dragging each other down, calling each other whores and attention seekers, we should be fixing each other’s crowns and lifting each other up whenever one of us falls. Let us not be scared of expressing ourselves as openly as we should.

Wear your long pants, shorts, long skirts, and mini-skirts without fear, parade them bravely; no one should define you. YOU are the main character in your life, YOU make the choices in your life. Let us not allow anyone to dictate how we should dress or live our lives because they lack control like normal grownups. Why are the male species trying to assume so much power over women when they do not accept the elegance, grace, power, beauty, and importance of every single female?

How come they can wear revealing shirts and shorts and the only consequence will be mild sunburns. Let us defeat the patriarchy, let it realise its mistakes and solve them instead of blaming women.

DO NOT REFRAIN FROM RAPING ME BECAUSE IM SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER OR SOMEONE’S SISTER OR SOMEONE’S WIFE, STOP BECAUSE I AM AN INDEPENDENT HUMAN BEING WITH A LIFE AND RIGHTS.

We might protest and shout all we want but unless and until the world accepts that sexual harassment and rape are because of inhuman, inconsiderate, shameful attackers then it will never end. Instead of imposing dress code laws, build institutions to counsel the mentally incapacitated human who thinks rape is justifiable. Teach your sons self control, teach them to respect women the way a normal rational man respects his mother.

I DO NOT DRESS LIKE A SLUT YOU THINK LIKE A RAPIST. WE ARE TIRED, TANETA, SIKHATHELE. WHEN WILL IT STOP WHEN WILL WE LIVE FREELY WITHOUT FEAR OF THE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD BE PROTECTING US.
