What other way is there to complement the year shut down of what has been a great year for the theatre scene, than to have one more good production. ONKA productions will on the 28th of November showcase their much awaited play, Eve’s Apple at the Bulawayo Theatre.
The play is about three women who are trying to navigate their way around a world where social media and patriarchal rules dominate. They discover that the society they live in is not as ready as it seems for an independent, driven and free-spirited. The cast includes Exult Ex da Voice Ncube Nonkanyiso Mabaleka, Amanda Huni, Leroy Ndlovu, Israel Macheka, Tumisang Lunga, and Nomaqhawe Moyo.The social media aspect within the play is Siphiwe Karimakwenda’s element of a concept birthed by Nonkanyiso Mabaleka. Expect a local flavour to it as the play used tracks from local producers Mboxe and Aluno P, and also feature DJ LV (Luvo) from Capetown.
According to the producer/director Nonkanyiso Mabaleka, “ONKA Productions’ aim is to bring a lot of people who had written off theatre back to watching shows.” Mabaleka believes that the theatre company will improve keep on improving the quality of their performances from one show to the next with the agenda of growing the theatre-going culture in Bulawayo. “This will add more diversity to the list of things to do in this cultural hub of a city”, she finished off
Eve’s Apple promises to be highly entertaining with performances from Mabaleka herself and Muse. Megatronz Empire dance group will also have a dance appearance.
The show will start at 6pm and will attract a USD3 fee. We hope it will live up to expectation and close down the year in style.
