Day 2 of the annual City of Bulawayo organised Christmas festivities failed to kick off yesterday at Nketa Park in Mpopoma due to a prolonged power outage that affected the township.
The black out happened despite Council having made a request to Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) to provide Mpopoma with electricity for the duration of the three day activities that will come to an end today.
“The outage struck at around 5AM, we thought that the power utility company was going to be lenient with us as our township is hosting such an event and give us a chance to see some of the cities talented artiste on stage,” said a resident.
All female dance outfit Thandanani Women’s Ensemble, Victory Siyanqoba, Khaya Arts, Simunye Simunye, Mzoe7, Msizkay and the people’s rapper Asaph are some of the acts who were billed to illuminate Nketa park with outstanding performances.
Due to the power cut all performances were moved to today and will see festivities start earlier than usual (3pm) and will run till late.
The Christmas Festivities at Nketa Park in Mpopoma roared to life on Friday with the switching on of the lights, performances from various artists and fireworks displays.
