Young sensations Nutty O and Tamy have a bright future ahead of them after being named as nominees for this year’s All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

For the songs Handipere Power and Happy Again, respectively, Nutty O and Winky D are nominated in the category of Best Artist, Duo or Group in African Reggae, Ragga, and Dancehall.

For Happy Again, Winky D is nominated once more in the Southern Africa Best Male Artist regional category. Tamy is nominated for Best Female Artist in Southern Africa in the regional category for her song Sare. She will compete against ShaSha, another Zimbabwean musician, who is up for the award for her song iPiano starring Kamo Mphela and Felo Le Tee.

This year, the Western African area leads the regional nominations with 134 nominations, or 35% of the total; the Eastern African region is closely behind with 69 nominations, or 18%. With 68 nominations, the Southern African area comes in second with 17.8% of the vote; Central Africa comes in third with 52 nominations, 13.6 percent of the vote; and Northern Africa comes in fourth with 49 nominations, 12.8 percent of the vote. Additionally, with 10 nominations, or 2.6 percent of the total, the Global music region—which includes music from non-Africans in the diaspora who continue to advance the African region—takes second place on the list.

With six nominations for his 2021 smash hit, Big Flexa, in the categories of “Song of the Year,” “Breakout Artiste of the Year,” “Best African Collaboration,” “Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African Electro,” and “Best Artiste, Duo or Group in Use of African Dance/Choreography,” South African maverick Costa Titch leads the list this year with the most nominations.
